What can you use the app for?

Zoomorama makes it possible to create online magazines which are known as Zoomazines. This is a very easy process which simply involves pasting images and multimedia content. The idea behind the site is to enable users to create a magazine which will rival LIFE magazine. LIFE uses a lot of images in its magazines and this is what the creators of Zoomorama are allowing you to do. It’s much easier to explain using pictures rather than with lots of text, it also makes it possible to easily design your magazine to make it as attractive as possible. Zoomorama have created Zoom Creator and Zoom Local, these both make it easier to express your feelings on the internet.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Zoomorama was created by a small team of web developers; these are based internationally in Saigon, Toronto and Paris. The application was created by a photographer because nothing else like this existed which was easy to use. The site has received €1.45 million in funding from various sources since founding. The site was shut down on April 29, 2010 because Zoomorama didn't found its market.

What are the differences to other apps?

Unlike other applications this one is designed to create a number of different types of web content including magazines and photo albums. It also has downloadable software which makes it really easy to create and manage your content. It’s not finished and many of the typos are irritating. The name is also quite catchy but difficult to remember how to spell.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The design of the site isn’t bad but it looks a bit outdated. There are a number of silly typos and places where it says “Click Here” even though there isn’t actually a link there. This leaves you feeling that the site is unfinished, it is in Beta so this is strictly true but these are minor errors which should already of been fixed. Using Zoom Creator to create your own online publications is easy once you have downloaded it to your computer. It’s also very easy to browse the publications on the site and choose which one you might want to read. To use the site you must have adobe flash installed, if not then you will be told where to download it. To create any content you will need to download and install zoom creator, but to view content you can just use the website.

How does the registration process work?

It’s possible to read publications without an account, however if you want to comment or create your own then you will need to register for an account. This doesn’t take long, when you sign up all accounts will be free. You do also have the option to upgrade your account at a later date if you wish. Signing up for an account is easy and involves a fairly standard signup form, do choose your username carefully though because this can’t be changed. Also there is a capatcha test; unlike many others this one is case sensitive so make sure you respect the capital letters! Make sure you check the tick box before you click the save button. You will then be sent an email which you will need to read and follow the instructions to activate your account.

What does it cost to use the application?

Zoomorama is a completely free site and that includes free storage of all images and any other content. The business is supported by advertising which appear on all free accounts. There are also premium and pro subscriptions available if users want more storage space, and the option to look at the site without seeing any adverts.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Zoomorama is recommended for anyone that wants to create an online magazine but has no idea where to start. The software is very simple and because it’s free it makes it very easy to build and design your very own magazine.
